An honour for us to take part in the “MUNDUS VINI” award.
At the 26th MUNDUS VINI 2020 Grand International Wine Award the Polvaro Nero Red Blend awarded the Gold Medal!
Our Polvaro Nero 2018 has won the Gold Medal at the 26th MUNDUS VINI Grand International Wine Award 2020, earning itself a place as one of the world’s top wines.
Winner of the Gold Medal, the Polvaro Nero was selected in a competition involving more than 11,000 wines in the Red, White, Sparkling, Sweet and Rosé categories presented. The prize, assigned according to the characteristics of the wine, profile, structure, aromas and vinification, was awarded by a top-level international panel of judges consisting of oenologists, vine growers, specialist dealers, sommeliers and sector journalists who had tasted the wines, sparkling wines and liqueur wines during a blind tasting.
The wines were divided according to product category, origin, quality category and taste characteristics and judged according to the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV)’s 100 point assessment system, also recognised by the International Union of Oenologists (UIOE).
Receiving a total score of 91 points.
The Polvaro Nero stood out as a unique blend of tradition and innovation.
Our jewel is a blend of three grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec.
Each variety is ready at a different time as they are each macerated and vinified separately. The unique blend is not created until after the first settling and is then refined in French oak barriques for 12 months.
Production process
This and the other Polvaro wines also stand out for the sustainability of the production process, starting from the vine and continuing in the winery. For the various varieties, the highly technological and sustainable vinification process takes place in stainless steel vats, organic fermenters known as Mythos tanks. In the Mythos tank, the carbon dioxide given off naturally during fermentation of the wine is used to move the mass, releasing all the aromas and flavours delicately and naturally. The process is slower than the traditional method, but gives a wine with excellent stature, full-bodied, warm and with a distinctive personality.
Food pairings
The spicy profile with notes of chocolate and red fruit make the Polvaro Nero ideal to accompany rich meat dishes, roasts and grilled meat.
Our “Pride”
In the words of the owner, Armando De Zan: “We are delighted and honoured that this year one of our Polvaro wines again won the highest score among the Reds of the World taking part in the 26th MUNDUS VINI Grand International Wine Award 2020.” Last year, the Polvaro Nero also gave us great satisfaction, with regional and international recognition. He continues: “This year’s achievement is, however, an immense satisfaction, as the Polvaro Nero is the maximum expression of our concept of winemaking, appreciated not just in Italy, but also abroad.”
