Polvaro Nero D.O.C. 2016 won the 2019 Best Red Wine of Veneto Award!

At the 2019 Italian National Wine Competition held in Pramaggiore (Venice), the Polvaro Nero Red Blend obtained the highest score out of all the RED wines of Veneto, winning the prestigious “Veneto Più” Award.

Polvaro Nero was reviewed together with more than 500 wines from Veneto divided in different categories such as: Red, White, Sparkling, Sweet and Rosé Wines. Based on the characteristics of the wine, profile, structure, aromas, and winemaking notes, the Polvaro Nero was selected as the Best Red by a panel composed of 5 oenologists and wine technicians appointed by the Italian Wine Technicians Association and chaired by the president of Assoenologi Riccardo Cotarella.

Polvaro Nero stands out as a unique blend of tradition and innovation.
Polvaro Nero is a blend of three Estate-grown varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec.
Each variety has different maturation periods and it’s macerated and vinified separately. Only after a first decantation process, our winemakers proceed with the creation of the unique blend, which is partly left to rest in oak barrels.

What really sets this wine and all Candoni De Zan Family’s Estate-grown wines apart, is the sustainable production process from the vineyard all through the cellar. Indeed, the vinification of the different varieties takes place in highly technological and sustainable stainless-steel tanks – biological fermenters called Mythos. The carbon dioxide that comes naturally from the wine fermentation is used to move the mass and to release all the aromas and flavors in a delicate and natural way. A process that is certainly slower than the traditional one, but that contributes to create an excellentwine, full-bodied, and with a strong personality.

The spicy profile with hints of chocolate and red fruit makes the Polvaro Nero perfect to pair with rich meat dishes, roasts and grilled meats.

“We are pleased and honored to announce that, for the second year in a row, one of our wines obtained the highest score out of all the Red Wines from Veneto at this National Wine Competition”, states the owner of Candoni De Zan wines, Armando De Zan. Last year, the prestigious prize was awarded to the Polvaro Merlot D.O.C. 2015, but as Armando De Zan further highlights: “For us, this year’s award is even more special as the Polvaro Nero Red Blend represents the maximum expression of our idea of winemaking, which is appreciated not only in Italy but all over the world.”

The awarding ceremony will take place on May 26, 2019 during the official opening of the new Enoteca of the Veneto Region, a space dedicated to the tasting and exhibition of Veneto’s best wines. This is yet another success for Candoni De Zan Wines after the Gold Medals obtained by its estate-brand wines at the 2019 Italian National Wine Competition, and the ‘Angelo Betti’ prize for Italian viticulture awarded to its owner, Armando De Zan at Vinitaly 2019.
