The holidays are right around the corner and with them comes the busiest time of year for people all over the world. We understand firsthand just how easy it is to get lost in finding the perfect gift for each person on your list and become overwhelmed with holiday stress. With this in mind, we invite you to take some time for yourself and acknowledge the things that are the most important this holiday season.
The Candoni De Zan Family firmly believes that there is nothing more essential than spending time with your loved ones. Personally, we are all looking forward to being able to safely celebrate together with some traditional dishes and delicious Italian sparkling wine. As we are sure you’ll agree, wine is the perfect way to unwind in the midst of the delightful chaos of the holidays.
Holiday Traditions in Italy
Though this Holiday Season in Italy is still looking a little different than years before, and things are still not completely back to normal, we are excited for the return of the Christmas markets, celebrations, and other Italian Holiday traditions no matter how gradual it may be. In an effort to experience this elation with those who do not live in Italy, our family wanted to share a few of our favorite Italian holiday traditions with you!
Traditions can vary from region to region, however, Holiday festivities in Italy typically kick off on December 8th with the appearance of decorations and the start of the Christmas markets all over the country. The eight days leading up to Christmas are full of carolers singing in every neighborhood and on the day itself, many Italians welcome the holiday by skiing! But the celebration doesn’t end there. The official end of the holiday season isn’t until the 6th of January!
The Best Cocktail for Holiday Gatherings
Of course one of the best parts of the season is the big Italian Christmas dinner! There are many different recipes for the ultimate feast, but one of our favorite parts is the Italian aperitivo that calls for the traditional Italian Prosecco Spritz. Our family loves to pair delicious, home-cooked foods and each dish has its own wine pairing. Prosecco and Prosecco cocktails are usually always a favourite! Give it a try with this recipe for one of the best prosecco cocktails for this time of the year, the Holiday Spritz!
You will need:
- 3 ounces of orange liquor (ex. Aperol, Campari, Contratto..to name a few options)
- 3 ounces of Candoni Prosecco Wine
- 2 ounces of club soda (We’ve also used cranberry-flavored sparkling water for this!)
- 1 ounce of cranberry juice
- 1 orange wedge
- 1 orange zest twist
- 1 sprig of rosemary
First, combine the orange liquor, prosecco, and cranberry in a glass with ice. Then add in an orange wedge and a twist. You can even pop in a sprig of rosemary for some added holiday cheer! Not only is this cocktail delicious, but it also looks incredible and is simple to make!
